Hard Reboot/DFU Mode/Recovery Mode on iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus

HARD REBOOT

Force Reboot: forcing the device to restart in order to correct glitches or if device gets stuck. Basically the same thing as unplugging the power.

  1. Press and release VOLUME UP button
  2. Press and release VOLUME DOWN button
  3. Press and hold SLEEP/WAKE button until the screen goes black then release the button
  4. The Apple logo will come on after a few seconds

DFU MODE

DFU Mode: “Device Firmware Upgrade” mode. Manually prepping the device for iTunes update/restore. Used to bypass passcode/apple ID verification on restore (does not bypass iCloud Lock!), and was used in past jailbreaks. Also great for freaking people out.

  1. Press and release VOLUME UP button
  2. Press and release VOLUME DOWN button
  3. Press and hold SLEEP/WAKE button until the screen goes black
  4. When the screen goes black, continue holding the SLEEP/WAKE button and hold VOLUME DOWN button until the Apple logo comes back on and disappears
  5. Release the SLEEP/WAKE button while still holding the VOLUME DOWN button for another 10 seconds

RECOVERY MODE

Recovery Mode: A boot loader used as a last resort when your phone has taken a dump. Initiates iTunes connection regardless of anything software-related (errors, freezes, glitches, etc.). Also, even better for freaking people out.

  1. Connect your phone to the computer
  2. Press and release VOLUME UP button
  3. Press and release VOLUME DOWN button
  4. Press and hold SLEEP/WAKE button until the screen goes black
  5. Then continue holding the SLEEP/WAKE button until the Apple logo comes back on
  6. Continue holding the SLEEP/WAKE button until you see the iTunes logo comes on

Exit DFU/RECOVERY MODE

  1. Press and release VOLUME UP button
  2. Press and release VOLUME DOWN button
  3. Press and hold SLEEP/WAKE button then release it when the Apple logo comes on
